Hot Hair Colour Trends That You Should Not Miss This Year

We’ve seen a lot of hot hair colour styles last year. We’ve ogled celebrity hair styles, flipped through magazines looking for the next perfect look and seen a lot of crazy styles on the street.

Balayage was a huge hit with many ladies trying out this classic style. Celebrities like Heidi Klum and Selena Gomez helped popularise this style.

We have also seen a lot of blonde hair colour popping up. Jourdan Dunn cut her long brunette hair into a blonde pixie, Kristen Stewart also went short and blonde and Katy Perry debuted a wintery blonde hair colour in February.

Highlights have also been popular with many people choosing to use them to subtly show off vibrant colours rather than daring to go full red or violet.

What to expect this year? I think a lot of these styles will remain popular albeit with new variations. Balayage for instance, has yet to lose steam. Expect a lot of bolder styles as well as a renaissance of some gold old classics like ombre.

See our top hair colour trends picks for this year.

1. More Balayage

Natural Balayage

As Balayage evolves, expect to see more natural styles. After all, Balayage has always been about creating a natural look. You’ll often see these styles combined with shorter haircuts to create an earthier look.
But it can also look amazing on longer tresses. Check out these chocolate cherry waves. They look elegant, subtle and natural.

Modern Balayage

There will also be plenty of modern takes on the classic Balayage colour palettes such as this multi-tonal Balayage with dark, violet and brown shades.

Here’s another modern take that combines faint blonde streaks with silvery highlights.

And here’s another one that perfectly blends a vibrant natural red with light blonde.

Expect to see many more colour combinations as people look for new ways to stand out while still retaining the classic and beautiful Balayage look. If you want to try out one of the new styles yourself, talk to your hairdresser about the best style for your hair and skin tone.

Creative Balayage

There will always be those who push the edges of style. Expect to see Balayage integrated into many other hair styles from pixies to braids and even dreadlocks.

2. Contrasting Roots

The common method with styles like Balayage and Ombre is to create a colour gradient halfway through the hair length. So you might have one shade up to half the hair and another up to to the ends.
If you want something more subtle, create a contrast just in your roots. You can either colour them differently from the rest of the hair or leave them uncoloured as you dye your hair. Either way, it’s a great way to jazz up your hair without taking a too-daring leap.

3. Short and Coloured

Kristen Stewart led the way with her platinum blonde pixie. Expect to see more shorter and coloured styles in 2018 as pixies and lobs become more popular.

4. Full Copper

Red hair has always been a favourite for those looking for a drastic change of style. But if you are not ready to go that far, there are other softer shades in the red colour range. Copper is going to be popular as people move away from traditional browns but don’t want to go full red.

Copper works great for long hair. It shimmers in a beautiful mane-like style. Other nearby reddish colours to consider include dark golden blonde, ginger, light Auburn and mahogany.

5. Violet

Violet shades will be popular in 2018 ranging from deep purple to a light touch of Mauve. Violet will be mostly popular as highlights and in Balayage styles. It’ll also be a favourite for those with pixies and lobs looking for a vibrant colour to make up for hair length.

6. Platinum and Silver

You don’t have go blue if you are looking for a cool hair colour. Silver and platinum are becoming quite popular either as full hair colours on their own or as part of a multi-tone palette.

These colours work great whether you have long flowing hair or a boyish pixie cut.
